Help MV Balmoral Sail Again
MV Balmoral was launched in 1949 in Southampton as flagship of the Red Funnel Fleet. From 1969, she sailed on the Bristol Channel and was the last vessel sailing of the famous P&A Campbell White Funnel Fleet.
After a brief period as a restaurant in Dundee, Balmoral was rescued and returned, in partnership with the paddle steamer Waverly, to sailing the British coast from 1986 until withdrawn from service in 2012.
Supporters and lovers of Balmoral got together to raise funds, repair and acquire ownership. Then with lots of help from various bodies and volunteers Balmoral had great and memorable days sailing wonderful coastlines between 2015 until 2017 when she had to be withdrawn from service again.
MV Balmoral Fund Ltd the ship's owner continues with the challenge of preserving Balmoral in working condition. Costs to return her to coastal sailing with passengers have increased through the need for considerable regulatory alteration work. In the meantime visitors are welcome at Bristol harbourside to experience the heritage of the vessel, to enjoy and use this classic ship for educational, community and other activities.
Volunteers are generously giving their time, working to maintain and explain the ship; assisting with activities and fund raise generally.
Donations and new volunteers would be very welcome.
